KIPP Community East Primary School Leader Carey Selected as Louisiana Department of Education’s 2020 Principal of the Year Finalist

NEW ORLEANS – Today, KIPP New Orleans (KNOS) honors KIPP Community East Primary (KECP) School Leader Jennifer Dennis Carey on being selected as a Louisiana Department of Education’s (LDOE) 2020 Principal of the Year finalist.

“We are extremely proud and appreciative of Jennifer Dennis Carey. KIPP East is a place where teachers love teaching and students love learning.  It is a special place and wonderful for her work to be recognized by the state,” said Chief Academic Officer Todd Purvis. “Thank you to the Louisiana Department of Education for selecting Jenny as a finalist for Principal of the Year.”

As a member of the founding team, Carey has been serving as the school leader for KECP since August 2013. Prior to this role, she served KIPP Central City Academy (KCCA) as a 5th grade reading teacher and Assistant Principal of the Lower Academy.

She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Government from Emory University and Master’s degree in Elementary Education and Teaching from Pace University.

The LDOE’s Principal of the Year will be announced July 19, 2019.
