NEW ORLEANS (July 21, 2020) – John F. Kennedy High School (JFK), officially a part of the KIPP New Orleans Schools (KNOS) network, proudly announces former Arena Football League (AFL) and National Football League (NFL) player Lynaris Elpheage as the new Head Football Coach. Elpheage will join the JFK family this summer under the leadership of newly appointed Principal, Dr. Joseph Jones, Jr.

“We are proud and excited to have Coach Elpheage join our team,” said JFK Principal Jones. “He has a proven record of success in football operations and we are excited to bring that to the Cougar Family! Most importantly, we look forward to him working with our students to develop them into leaders at JFK and in the community.”

Elpheage began his career in 2003 playing for the New Orleans Saints before transitioning to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers later that season. He then went on to play in the AFL for the Tampa Bay Storm from 2004-2007. After retiring from football, Elpheage became the Head of Football Operations at the Tulane University College Youth Impact Program in 2007. He also served as Athletic Director for Johnson Middle School from 2011-2013, Crescent Leadership Academy from 2013-2015 and Medard H. Nelson Middle School from 2015-2017. Most recently, he served as the Assistant Football Coach/Offensive Coordinator at G.W. Carver High School (Carver) and School Disciplinarian at Mary D. Coghill Middle School.

JFK Head Football Coach Elpheage said, “I am honored to join the JFK community. It brings me joy to work with coaches, staff and athletes of a school with so much legacy. I have had the opportunity to gain football experience at the high school, collegiate and professional levels; I know what it takes to be successful in this sport. I look forward to working with the Kennedy students to coach and develop them on-and-off the field.”

Elpheage graduated from Carver in 2000 and went on to receive a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Social Science at Tulane University in 2011. At Tulane, he earned second team All-American Honors and first team All-Conference accolades.

The 2020 – 2021 academic school year will begin August 10, 2020. Students and families interested in attending JFK are encouraged to click here.
