Thomas graduates you may be seated on behalf of the faculty and staff of John F Kennedy High School I would like to walk on the family friends and its team guess kind of Kennedy's class of 2021 let's give them a round of applause graduate you made it you work tirelessly to this for this exact moment despite a global pandemic despite numerous schedule changes despite the current find me where in and get your persevere I could not be more powder of this class in the work that you've done what that's the day we have I just think what you got Doctor Henderson Lewis Jr New Orleans Public School Superintendent mr. Ethan Ashley Arlene Public Schools board president mr. Oldham Parker John F Kennedy School Board representative Miss Rhonda Eloise Chief Executive Officer of KIPP New Orleans school I guess speaker mr. Elroy James Jeff Kellam class of 1991 Assistant Attorney General for Louisiana Department of Education president of zulu Aid and pleasure club and Miss done yet love John F Kennedy Class of 1989 let's give them a round of applause before we begin I would like all of the parents or guardians of these Scholars to take the stand real quick if you are a parent or Guardian please be recognized graduates let's give your family around of Applause because if not for them you were I'll be here today several times they have to answer I called to wake you up to make sure you are all virtual zoom and forever we are grateful for you for this exact moment next up we will have a welcome speech by our senior class president mr. Nia turn good evening on behalf of the class of 2021 it is my pleasure to welcome the faculty and staff parents of things friends loved one and most and thank you to everyone gathered here today to witness and celebrate this special occasion with the class of 2021 believe you I believe I have played a major role in Saving each of us into the person that we are today and guiding us along the way for this and much more we are grateful my fellow students we only arrived here four short years ago and I was already time to leave how did it all go so fast it seems like only yesterday that we were skinny little freshmen fighting with the locks on a locker trying to figure out where our next class was and looking generally clueless to all the upperclassmen now we are the upperclassmen the seniors who sang here ready to graduate and move forward in the world yet at this thing moment we can't help looking back at all the great memories how do the time we've spent in high school in the beginning we measure it in class. Counting down the days to eventful Freedom as the days and weeks passed we measure it in semesters and later in years as we moved from those coolest freshmen to be coming sophomores who thought they had it all figured out by the time we reached our Junior we were confident that we were prepared to take over for The Graduate 16 years and we couldn't wait to rule the school now here we stand our rule is over and it's up to the next class to step into our shoes and take over I know that as I look at as I look out at all you I will measure my time here in such a different way I will measure it in all the friendships I've enjoyed these last four years somewhere pretty casual and others were much closer but I'll remember each Bonnie as I'm sure you will too and when many of our high school memories begin to fade and that's how we'll ultimately measure the time we spent here not imperious or semesters or years but in the friendships that we made in the vShare give it up one more time for a mr. except New Orleans schools it's my great honor to congratulate you on this very special day I know this evening is a time that no one in this Arena will ever forget and I know that every person in here feels deep gratitude and hope despite the challenges and tragedy of the past year for so many in our community we are truly blessed to be able to come together here this evening and sell great you are graduates of the class of 2021 as you mark the end of your high school career and the beginning of all of the incredible Pursuits and accomplishments ahead of you I also want to say that we are especially excited to welcome the John F Kennedy Community through our kids even family and we are grateful that you have welcomed us into yours it's not even been a year since we began our partnership and while the seniors have only been I'm with our team I meant many of our team not all cuz many of your teachers have been with you for much longer than we have we are so grateful for the special year that we've had together despite the challenges I'm excited for you to hear from your fellow classmates and our esteemed guest speakers encourage you to listen to every word take their words with you and relish these moments as you are cherished and celebrated as you enjoyed your time in high school I want to share one refill important message you have been part of something we call team and family and you have been part of an incredible School community at John F Kennedy as a student you signed up for a rigorous academic experience and wonderfully and sing extracurriculars like band football art field trips but more than that you have been part of a community you have been loved and supported by your teachers and intern you have taught us all so much and you helped us make sure that Kennedy will be even better for those that come behind you know that you were soon-to-be alumni of John F Kennedy High School and of KIPP New Orleans schools with that comes the same and support that you've had all along don't be strangers know that we're here if you need us it won't be very long before our kids through College and Career counselors will be hounding you to see what you need as you go out to call or start your job pick up the phone when we call we want to help and we want you to stay connected to this amazing community I also want you to know that this school is your Institution is your siblings and cousins and neighbors continue the Traditions here or at other KIPP Schools across the city it's important that you remain engaged that you continue to be models for them that you contribute that you come back for all the amazing things at the Alumni network has to offer great institution stay great because students like you become alumni and continue to care for their school if you do this a hundred years students who sit in the very seat that you're sitting in will have experience greatness they will have unlimited opportunity ahead of them because there will have been students like you who came before them and who continue to love and cherish their school long after their High School graduation so we bid you congratulations and farewell but we look forward to seeing you around for many many years to come thank you graduate we could not be more proud and Warren of what you have done during this very tumultuous Year we love you we wish you the very best and congratulation this year's salutatorian is a young woman who exemplifies what it means to be a John F Kennedy Kruger during her time at John F Kennedy involved in numerous activity such as Deka the national senior Beta Club student council drama club choir and is this year's student body president in the fall she will continue her education at the prestigious Spelman College what's your major in economics I introduced you to this year's salutatorian Miss Kailyn Carter good evening students school board members District staff and our esteem self esteem first I would like to thank all of you some teachers to friends and family from being in attendance this evening you have all had a profound impact on the development of the students that will be graduating today and I feel it is safe to say that I speak on behalf of the whole graduating class of twenty twenty and thanking you for all of your efforts that you have invested in this to this day when I first sat down to write this speech tons of thoughts were going through my mind and my going to reminisce about the memories of great importance to me how about speaking of significant events from the entire school what is the message I should try to convey will I pass out or just be a loss of words because to be honest I did not think I had this in me but the most important go Astro 4 to create was the speech that was truly different not that bored people to sleep or follow the traditional your journey ends here but a new one begins format Minister offered excitement a new insight into this Monumental day however it is more so about your accomplishments and the best way for me to craft inspiration and motivation and you all today is no small feat significant and life-altering achievement most of you can claim to this day never hesitate to recognize how proud each and every person here today is a few to complete such a long and difficult task having worked so hard for 13 years just for this moment it is hard to ignore the determination perseverance patients hard work and even sacrifice then MBA self in the attitudes of ever graduate there no more amount of opportunities your diplomas enable you to attend without a doubt and I encourage you all to pursue what is most dear to you pursue that and what you feel you can make a difference looking at you the class of 2021 I realize that after today I may no longer see many of you that is a painful thought on the other hand I'm also filled with and because I have no doubt in my mind that every single one of you sitting before me has the potential to succeed and make a difference in life of course not every one of us can be rich famous and Powerful but often it is the people who just offer words of advice and encouragement that work make the world a better place it is human nature to reflect the mood of others and your own actions so positive words and actions can have an overwhelming impact on the moon and quality of life in others remaining positive even in the harshest circumstances places individuals in a position to verbal sale of knowing this allows a bright future school not only have I gained knowledge of subjects I have studied but I have learned many of the lessons as well at times I know some of you questioned the need to attend class but gaining intelligence is not only purpose of it school has helped to build prices social skills as well as instead of Isis 16 I don't know about you but when I see others performing well I take it as a challenge to try my best as well having the correct I said makes all the difference if you believe you can achieve anything and don't allow others to tell you differently what you are capable of is achieving and genuinely amazing even when it comes to obtaining a good grade in Mississippi class I know everyone can agree with the statement I would like to come to my speech with a quote from Robert Frost sewers the version of wood and I took The Road Less Traveled by and that has made all the difference I encourage you the class of 2021 to not only follow the opportunities available to you but to follow your heart and pursue will cause a particular importance to you instead of following the path of past Generations in classes I challenge you to make your own pass the wrists are always present but the battle makes the winds so much sweeter for me it is neither about the money nor the Normandy of position Wednesday whether I can make difference and love what I do thanks again to all the family's friends teachers and any others I have missed for your same the system principal and 12th grade lead of this amazing class of 2021 and tonight I have the esteemed honor of presenting the cougar of the Year award this award has been presented to one of our amazing graduates who exemplify the true definition of what being a Kennedy cougar really is and really mean this graduate is the first to become a part of the elite 5700 Club of John F Kennedy High School under the regime of Cuba though born in New Orleans The Scholar was raised in Texas until their sixth grade year of elementary school and eventually return to the great City of New Orleans and join the Kennedy this caller has remained the Kent a part of the Kennedy family until this day are on a reef for the evening models are Kennedy value of Pride academic excellence and Leadership on a annual basis this happens through their vocalizing of their love for JFK participating in extracurricular activities all four years of high school being absent from school less than 10 days. will pandemic being recognized by Falcon City staff and the current students of being a fearless leader and a Trailblazer Blazer ranking in the top ten percentile of the class of 2021 maintaining a 3.0 or higher GPA and establishing a very strong post-secondary plan of attending Clark Atlanta University to become a behavioral analysis Detective the recipient of this cougar of the Year award and she does not know until now that she's receiving this award goes to none other than Ariana bubble Barn I don't know about you but to maintain all of this greatness be up of the top 10 I know we can do better than that let's give her an amazing Round of Applause let's give her another round of applause and at this time we will now have our faculty of dress by Kip Chopin leads to your class advisor thank you good evening steam yes respected principal Vice colleagues families friends students and a magnificent outgoing John F Kennedy class of 2021 I am honored and pleased to deliver this farewell speech those honor to attend this event should remember this 14-day of me as a day of Joy particularly for the graduating students and their parents we are all here to Bid Farewell to our Scholars who are leaving this institution after success completion of the 12-year at John F Kennedy to the graduates just buy some hard task sadness and grief that you have encountered in the course of your studies at Kennedy at the end of it all you completed part of your journey with great achievements and beautiful memories being tough with you at times did not mean that we displayed any animosity or intentional anguish towards you but to prepare you for a greater challenge ahead nurture you to build a strong foundation for your next level under our guidance you have attained this impressive milestone in your life with great honor and integrity today I'm honored to say we are proud of your many of cheeseman's over the years your various accomplishments in almost all curriculum and extra curriculum activities your brilliant achievement and academic discourse and its Sports they are indeed acknowledge your sweet memories will forever remain in our hearts hi my fellow colleagues wish to thank you for the uncommon Zeal you have demonstrated towards your studies and your relationships with the teachers and ministration underclassmen and Eve amongst yourselves today I'm impressed and happy to say that during your stay the school neither witness no recorded any incidents indeed you have shown us that you all come from a good home and will train therefore you will have left behind a very good Legacy for the juniors and incoming students to follow my dear students as you leave this institution expect that some challenges await you which of course I strongly believe going by your antecedents and a manner you have conducted yourselves over the years and the skills and knowledge we have imparted to you you would surely overcome down at this point I want to employ my dear outgoing student to always see yourself as good and Bachelors of John F Kennedy and never allow a selfish interest to blemish the Integrity that you have nurtured over the years and this great Institution be kind and good to People You Meet on your way up a lot of words of your Kennedy family to guide you as your journey to Greatness think big thoughts and be optimistic and whatever you are doing I'll be half of the instructors and administration of John F Kennedy I've been farewell and wish you the best of luck in your days ahead I would like to leave you with the words of Malcolm X it Georgia State University was she inspired to become a trauma nurse practitioner and one day open her own Clinic without further do I enter to introduce you to this year's valedictorian Evangeline Gonzalez give us strong Round of Applause good evening guys class of 2021 we did it we are accomplishing something that we have never done we're walking across the stage and proving that nothing can stop a person from obtaining any goals that they will have not even a pandemic this school year has been hard emotionally mentally and spiritually for a lot of us were escaping childhood moving past adolescence and soreness of our adult lives some of us have a lot of people that we love dearly and we still push through the Sprite we are against this I would like to time to take I would like to take the time to thank God first for keeping me sane through my chaotic life I stand here today as a walking testimony that it doesn't matter where you come from or what you go through there will always be light and he will always be there I've been through the worst of the worst as a young woman and I'm here today accomplishing my goals despite the statistics of my busy life proof that you can do anything you want to do because you manifest greatness and you receive greatness back I would like to thank both my counselor and mr. Flores for always being a living here for me and being emotionally supportive when I felt like my world was ending I would like to thank my KIPP advisors for loving me and courage in me and being positive I would like to thank dr. Jones for keeping a calm head during all the complaints and issues I went and as long as my mother went to him with being and being understanding I will also like to thank myself for being a helping hand even though I was stubborn I would also like to thank Miss Butler for being positive and supportive I will also like to send a shout out to miss Dunbar my nursing teacher in Atlanta pushing me so hard to make sure I knew what I wanted to do in the medical field and being a strong spiritual guidance I will also like to thank Basile my step-dad who is the greatest that ever I like the bank bags of my step-dad who is the greatest thing I could ever have thank you for loving me through everything this year and last but not least I would love to thank my mother for everything we've been through we've been butting head since birth and despite all the hardships we going through you're always there to pick me up after I fall down I just want to let you know that this is the first step to me give me you know what I've been through and you watch your flowers bloom bloom and I love you class of 2021 cougars we did it we're about to start the next chapter of Our Lives I was everyone positivity and love allow this time to now different National. I have a quote by Nelson Mandela and the quote says I learned that courage was not the absence of fear but the triumph over it the brave man is not he who does not feel afraid but he conquer that fear class of 2021 we conquered Our Fair thank you El Royale is a first-generation attorney and currently practices law in New Orleans Louisiana mr. James is a graduate of the Southern University and A&M college where he received a Bachelor of Science in accounting he then continued on to Southern University Law Center is Georgetown University Law Center where he earned a master's of Law and Taxation mr. James began his legal career as a Judicial law clerk to the retired judge Steve Hunter King and silver district court for the Parish of Arlene's guess practice law in New Orleans defense Burns and in the public sector is currently an assistant attorney general for the Louisiana Department of Justice mr. James is also the president of zulu aid social Aid and pleasure Club in Zulu is the oldest predominately African-American parading organization in New Orleans has been a member of this organization for 28 years and was elected as a 97 King Zulu in 2012 Mister James is a life member of alpha buy Alpha Fraternity Incorporated a member of the Louisiana State Bar Association American Bar Association New Orleans and Baton Rouge Bar Association he serves as a co-chairman of the mayor Mardi Gras advisory Council number of the deacons Ministry at fifth African Baptist Church Pastor about Dale Jay Sanders senior Mister James is also a 1991 graduate of be John F Kennedy High School let's give a big cougar welcome to this year's commencement speaker Elroy James Esquire good evening the John F Kennedy's class of 2021 mister Jones I thought I was prepared to give some remarks that would be unique and different from those that were chosen to come before me but I think I failed in that got even more the salutatorian told me that they would be the stand-in traditional remarks but I hope I added a little different Let's Twist so that I leave the class of 2021 with some words that you can use as you go on your new Journey superintendent Dr Henderson Lewis and members of The Orleans Parish School Board Toledo dr. Joseph Jones Junior my fraternity brother and the leadership team of John F Kennedy High School and certainly to the valedictorian Evangeline Gonzales congratulations your achievement and salutatorian salutatorian Kailyn Carter I hope I don't disappoint you I must extend a thank you for both this unexpected and what I believe is an undeserving invitation to address the graduating class of John F Kennedy for year 2021 I can think so many local CEOs and elected officials that I believe think they are also deserving of this opportunity but you you chose me a young man from home Beginnings to dress a class who have accomplished so much so I want to sincerely say thank you. The Jones for extending to me such an opportunity let's do the class 2021 I want to say congratulations on this significant and major life achievement this moment is all about you it's all about you as you can see from the signage in this Arena dr. Jones into your band leader Keith Thomas and Charice Martin dog for the last three months I've been pondering and trying to figure out why again have life giving me a difficult task you see this invitation that I received is axe that I address young men and young women who have shown great strength perseverance and unwavering tenacity you have overcome so much can you beat nods and now you're graduating and I'm here to see that this wind is at your back you this class have fought against the public scrutiny of your school's grading Texas and you won you want it now that when it's at your back you endured an Abrupt change and your school's leadership and again you showed perseverance in your one and now that when is that your back and even more you was doing the change and what we experience as traditional learning you went from the virtual learning model to a hybrid learning model whatever you want to call it one thing we all can agree that it was different not experienced by many in society and guess what you one and now that one is at your back so that was asked to dress you I was wondering what a black man who's the product of a single family household headed by female who is the only one of his siblings on his mother's side actually the only one of his siblings on both his mother and father side Cliff graduated from college what can I a young black man the product of a single family household headed by FEMA who walked the halls of John F Kennedy in the early nineties what can I tell you a person who graduated from public College in University of Southern University in Baton Rouge Southern University call center and Georgetown Law Center what can I tell you a product of New Orleans Public School who is now an assistant attorney general for the state of Louisiana and who leads New Orleans most recognizable Mardi Gras organization what can I tell you well I'm here to tell you that this moment is all about you the fact that you are receiving your high school today means that you persevere in order to make it to this moment you really resisted some of life's Temptations so I say celebrate celebrate with your family a friend on a job well done but as you do so I ask that you also remember to stay humble Express words of thank you to your support system those family friends and teachers Educators who saw your potential push you to work hard who asked you to work longer to ask you to do your best to ask you to be better today's you commence with me and you start a New York ball cap on a New Journey you will find that you would need that same support system but you also need the ones that you Forge from this day forward to help you along your new Journey secondly I stopped by to tell you that you will prepare you opposed to Regent receive your high school diploma and now I'm moving on to the new chapter valedictorian Gonzales based on the over $560,000 a scholarship for this class has been awarded many you are moving on the colleges and universities across the state and across this country what awaits you when you step foot on the those the college campus of your choice is unknown by you remind you were Davidson McQuades Randolph summer you and John F Kennedy class of 2021 remove on to protect protecting our homelands I'll Shores and I water by listing in the United States military no enforces what awaits you what awaits you when you go to basic training what awaits you when you move on to your home base is largely Unknown by you anti G Carter some of you will use your aunt for no spirit and desires to open a business they were create a report robust Workforce in you community and put new products in the market what awaits you as a minority black-owned business owner is largely unknown but I'm here to tell you that you are prepared you going this new Journey to New Beginnings remember you're well-prepared some thirty years ago I was like you Mac high school year what's the chapter of my high school years were closing and I was going and barking up on New Beginnings as I walked on the campus of Southern University in Baton Rouge what awaited me was unknown but what I didn't know is that my foundation and the New Orleans Public School System was strong no I didn't graduate valedictorian and salutatorian but what I did have and what I was coming I knew that I had my own support system that nurtured me and equipped me with what I needed to be successful I tell you this story about this young Shy Guy who didn't have the biggest personalities but wanted to be drum major my support system at the time my band director David and then later. Walter Harris Hill John F Kennedy they saw something in me beso I wish I didn't have a big personality but they knew I had What it Took the first audition for drum major was a flop I felt I was not successful but my support system knew that if you wrap the right people he could be successful so the band director reschedule auditions and put the Falcons and Menace traitors as a judge and a sword that taught me that I had what it took to be successful as you go out on your new Journey surround yourself by support system who cares for you who knows who you knows your weakness and willing to work to Make It Wit and weakness your strength lastly I want to tell you that we need you mr. James what do you mean we need you New Orleans needs you the state of Louisiana needs you this country needs you we need your voice in the community we need your voice at the tables the voice of your generation will be the instrument that gets us closer to accepting individuals the spite of the differences because you are not willing to be defined by the status quo and by stereotypes you have made us realize that we have more in common than we have better different social scientist call you your Generation generation Z and it's known and we know that your generation is known for your desire and passion for social change and Racial equality we need young ladies of John F Kennedy to continue breaking the glass ceilings and we know that you are and we know that you will as soon as demonstrated by so many of you who represent the top 10 of your class my best sport is personal to me and I told the school leader that I was not going to dress it but I prepare the remote noticeably absent from the list of top 10 is our black men young black men at John F Kennedy we need you you are what we need and I Community you are the backbone to our families New Orleans need you the state of Louisiana need you and I know you were going to make us proud so as I conclude I want to say congratulations to the mighty class of 2021 you have persevered and made it through this journey and in a matter of minutes this win will be at your back as you're going to your new chapter once you remember to be humble and never compromise Who You Are thank you support system as you go along New Journey because you will find you wish you were still need them I want you to be confident because I know you're well prepared for what lies ahead and that you're going to do things remember New Orleans need you Louisiana needs you and our country needs you congratulations and I'm confident you got this thank you thank you mr. Joseph Jones our speaker of the hour El Royale a James Esquire the administration the staff the parents the fan and last but certainly not the members of John Fitzgerald Kennedy class of 2021 my name is Sonia Johnson love and I'm a graduate of John F Kennedy Class of 1989 rat served at the senior class president and I'm proud to say today the responsibility responsibility does not end with graduation so today I'm still working to maintain the bond that my classmates and I develop over 30 years ago today I have the distinct pleasure of welcoming you the members of the class of 2021 and to R J F K alumni family but before we do that I would like to encourage each of you to where the honor of being at Kennedy graduate proudly you won't be joining a group of its team men and women who seriously that we Bleed Blue and Gold and what that means if we take pride in ourselves and our school and then being a member of the JFK family in my professional career rat served as the Director of positive direction Support Services I can tell you if I get a resume from a qualified JFK graduate I am most certainly going to consider hiring a fellow cougar over some graduate from JFK that's just how we roll but seriously I reference that to say be proud to be a graduate of JFK's and we welcome each of you with open arms at this time at this time we think all of the parents will think that ministration and we pray that each of you will reach the goal that you have that you have planned for yourself thank you all right before I certify these diplomas mr. Thomas let's go ahead and we'll play our schools alma mater thank you so much mrs. Thomas here we go as principal of these a high school a certified that these seniors have met all of the requirements set forth by Kim New Orleans schools and its state of Louisiana by the power vested in me I hereby declare the class of 2021 to be graduate John F Kennedy High School graduates are your tassel throw it up in the air you deserve it congratulations I could not be more proud and tonight you'll see the Superdome in a colors of John F Kennedy represent blue and gold graduation so I celebrate
